Over the last few years I've collected a lot of links to various fungi articles. I'll be posting some of my favorites to this blog.
In 2006, National Geographic published a story about bioluminescent fungi growing in Brazil's Ribeira Valley Tourist State Park. The mushrooms are members of the Mycena genus.
Mushrooms, of course, aren't the first organisms to bioluminate. As the article points out, other organisms including some bacteria, earthworms, and ocean life do as well. The term foxfire often refers to the bioluminescence created by members in the Armillaria genus, including Armillaria mellea (Honey Mushroom) which is common in New England.
